The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes is castle in Rhodes which served as the citadel of the Knights Hospitalier during the period they called the island home. It therefore simultaneously served as their palace, headquarters, and fortress.[1]

In 1511, the Hospitallers, working as allies of the Templars, captured a group of Assassins and held them prisoner in the castle. In response, Mentor Ezio Auditore da Firenze, leading the Ottoman Brotherhood from Constantinople, ordered a rescue mission that was later followed by a full-scale assault which destroyed the citadel. By the end of 1512, the Templar presence had been dislodged from the city, and the Assassins founded a new Guild on the island[1] although the Hospitallers were permitted to remain until they were finally expelled in 1522 by the Ottoman Empire.[2]
