Octavian de Valois

Octavien, the Duke de Valois.

Octavian de Valois was one of Cesare Borgia's three generals and a member of the Templar Order. He had commanded a massive French army that helped Cesare consolidate his power in Rome. In 1499, the Duke de Valois accompained Cesare and the other generals to Monteriggioni, where they layed siege to the town and Villa. After the battle was won, the Duke de Valois returned to Rome with the others, with the Piece of Eden as their prize.

War with the Mercenaries and Death

After the Siege of Monteriggioni, Octavien assaulted Bartolomeo and his Mercenary guild, with his army. Ezio Auditore, who was present during the assault, managed to close all the gates, leaving him and the rest of the army, outside the guild walls. He revealed to Ezio and Bartolomeo that he has Bartolomeo's wife as a hostage and demanded that the Mercenaries surrendered or he will kill her. Ezio came up with a plan and told Bartolomeo, that the Mercenaries and Ezio will have to disguise themselves as French soldiers to gain access to Octavien's camp and infiltrate it. Ezio then killed 20 French soldiers and the Mercenaries gathered their uniforms and armor. Bartolomeo pretended to surrender, which allowed Ezio and the Mercenaries access to the camp. Once inside, Bartolomeo and the Mercenaries fought the French soldiers, while Ezio hunted down Octavien. Afraid, Octavien threatened to shoot Bartolomeo's wife, if any guards spotted Ezio. However, Ezio managed to dispatch all the guards and kill Octavien with a Ranged weapon.

Final Words

Octavian: I only wanted respect.

Ezio: Respect is earned, not inherited or purchased.

Octavian: Perhaps you are right... I need more time...

Ezio: Che tu sia parre nella morte (May you be equal in death). Requiescat in Pace (Rest in Peace).

Trivia

• It is possible to kill Octavien with a hiddenblade, however this is risky and if Octavien spots you, he will kill Bartolomeo's wife and you will be desynchronized for Allies dead.
