Nimue was a warrior, skilled with a sword and great in stealth, hailing from the islands north of Caledonia. One of her ancestors was a member of the Roman Hidden Ones stationed in Britannia.[1]

Biography

Circa 878, the Hidden Ones sent Nimue a message, inviting her to join their ranks, though this message was intercepted by the Women of the Mist from Avalon before Nimue could receive it. Nimue's invitation was given to Niamh of Argyll, who posed as Nimue in order to infiltrate the Hidden Ones and to learn about their motives.[2] After a period of time, Niamh reveals to both Valka[3] and Hytham that Nimue never received the letter as the Women of the Mist asked Niamh to take her place.[4]

Personality and traits

In the recruitment letter sent by the Hidden Ones addressed to Nimue, they described her as being, "as cunning as the fox and as silent as the adder."[2]

Equipment and skills

In the aforementioned letter, the British Hidden Ones also made note that within her resided the "the fierceness of the wolf and the speed of the rabbit..." owing to her skill that was renown and seemingly respected by the Hidden Ones.[2]

Behind the scenes

Nimue is a character mentioned in the 2022 novel Assassin's Creed: Valhalla – Sword of the White Horse written by Elsa Sjunneson.

Nimue shares her name with the Lady of the Lake character featured heavily in many Arthurian legends, first spelled that way by 15th century English author Thomas Malory in Le Morte d'Arthur.
