Niblo's Garden
Niblo's Garden was a theatre located on Broadway, New York City.
History
In 1863, Italian opera singer Adelina Patti was commissioned to sing and perform at the theatre. While readying herself, she stalled to perform until the management gave her the appropriate payment. After some back-and-forth conversations, Patti relented after receiving the correct payment and was escorted on stage to perform. After a successful performance, she later found herself in a sitting room. There, she overhears and then engages in conversation about the recent draft initiative and how this may lead to some planning to protest in response. Soon enough, she asks for a driver to take her to her room at the Fifth Avenue Hotel before leaving.[1]
Trivia
- During this time, the theatre happened to be the second renovation after the first one burned down in 1846.[2]
