Natanleod
Natanleod (died 508) was a 5th century Brittonic king.
Biography
Anglo-Saxon invasion
In the year 508, Natanleod, and 5,000 of his soldiers were killed by the invading Anglo-Saxons led by Cerdic and his son Cynric. Following his death, the land as far as Charford was named Netley after him. Cerdic and his House of Wessex then took the throne, where it would pass through his line.[1]
Legacy
During the 870s, the history of the early foundation of the Kingdom of Wessex was often studied in seminaries in the city of Wincestre. In one such seminary, an account of Natanleod's fall was found and read by the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir while she was in the city.[1]
