Nara is a city in Japan.

History

After leaving China, monk Jianzhen arrived at Nara. He then established an ordination platform at the Eastern Great Temple for the court to receive the Bodhisattva Precepts and to help the monks of Japan modernize. Jianzhen also prepared to erect another temple, this one in order to guard the śarīra he had brought from the continent in order to keep out of the hands of the Golden Turtles.[1]
