Mycenae was an ancient city located within the Palace of Agamemnon region of Argolis, Greece. It is best known for being the home of King Agamemnon.

History

According to the Greek mythology, the legendary hero Perseus moved to rule Mycenae following his marriage to the Aithiopian princess Andromeda. There they produced seven sons and two daughters, collectively known as the Perseids.[1]

One of the oldest cities in Greece, dating from the 3rd millennium BCE, its walls were said to be the work of the Cyclopes. The city was later abandoned, until taken over by bandits in the 5th century BCE.[2]

Agamemnon's tomb was also connected to and located nearby. It was explored by the Spartan misthios Kassandra during the Peloponnesian War.[2]
