The Mozzi family was an influential banking family in Florence, Italy, during the Renaissance. Maria Mozzi was born in 1432 as the daughter of protective parents, a situation she found restrictive. Eventually, her parents reluctantly agreed to her wish to start a business and allowed her to open a bakery within the family palazzo. A week after the opening, she met Giovanni Auditore da Firenze there. The two formed a close bond and married in 1452. From that point on, Maria adopted the surname Auditore.[1] [2]
Legacy
The Mozzi family was mentioned in the diaries of Maria Auditore, which have been preserved as valuable primary sources from the Renaissance. Her writings provided historians with insight into daily life, social structures, and the role of women within Florence durinfg the fifteenth century.[1] [2]
