The Maria of Jehoshafat Church

The Maria of Jehoshafat Church was a church located in the Poor District of the city of Acre in the Kingdom of Jerusalem during the Third Crusade. It was a popular meeting place for the city's residents.

In July 1191, the church was one of the locations where the Levantine Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad visited to gather clues on Garnier de Naplouse, a member of the Knight Templars and Grand Master of the Knights Hospitalier.[1]

Trivia

  • The church no longer exists today and has been replaced by a mosque called the Al-Zeituna Mosque.
