Lykaon was a king of Arkadia in Greek mythology.

According to the story, he offered the flesh of his own son to the god Zeus. As punishment for this gruesome deed, Zeus transformed Lykaon into a wolf.

In 5th century BCE a cave on Mount Psophis in Arkadia was named after him. Fittingly, it was the den of a pack of wolves. The Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the den, killing the alpha wolf. She also slew a wolf called the Lykaon Wolf at the request of Daphnae, the acting leader of the Daughters of Artemis.[1]
