A good way to ward off bad luck on an expedition was to be familiar with all of the taboos before setting sail. Along with other maritime skills, lessons about taboos were passed from father to son, from fisherman to fisherman.

Those bold or foolish enough to ignore their elders warnings and risk the wrath of the gods could end their joney much like this unfortunate crew.
