Men would trim their beards and comb them. Their combs were finely crafted from wood, metal, and bone, as seen in this image. They would also braid their beards and bead them for decoration.

Women cared for their long hair, braiding and styling it.

Both men and women bathed regularly.

These rigorous standards for personal grooming were more easily met by people of high social status. They had more time and money to spend on hygiene.
