The North Way was an important route; whoever controlled it controlled trade. By the end of the 800s, Alrekstad had become the seat of royal power and was the starting point for both commercial and military expeditions.

The design of Alrekstad in Assassin's Creed Valhalla was greatly inspired by Bryggen, seen here, a historic harbour district in the modern city of Bergen.
