According to legend, Odin wanted to discover what the future held for him. His desire to know what lay in store conflicted with the universal order and the will of the Norns, the keepers of fate. TO find this answer, Odin went to Mimir's Well, a magical place nestled within the roots of Yggdrasil, the Cosmic Tree.

Supposedly, whoever drank from Mimir's waters would be blessed with secret and precious knowledge, such as the ins and outs of Fate itself. However, this wisdom was costly, and those who sought it would be required to pay a heavy price. To buy the knowledge he sought, Odin scarificed one of his eyes. He recieved a nasty scar in return, as seen in this piece of concept art.
