Kopis

The Kopis was a variation of the kopis sword used by the Spartan military in ancient Greece.

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra found this sword in the inventories of blacksmiths and looted it from bodies and chests during her travels throughout Greece.[1]

Behind the scenes

The kopis, a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, is the default weapon used by the Spartan heavy soldiers in the game. In actual Greek history, the Spartans used a shorter version of the kopis, although one of the earliest military historians, Xenophon, recommended its use for mounted warfare. As such, the kopis was the sidearm of choice for Alexander the Great's cavalry. It is also possible that the kopis influenced the falcata used by Carthaginian and Iberian warriors up to and during the Punic Wars.
