Kjotve's Fortress

Kjotve's Fortress was a heavily-fortified settlement nestled deep within a valley in Rygjafylke, Norway, serving as the stronghold of the jarl Kjotve the Cruel and his Wolf Clan.

In 872, bolstered by the army of King Harald, the Raven Clan led by Eivor Varinsdottir and Sigurd Styrbjornsson led an assault on the fortress in a final attempt to settle the rivalry between both clans for good. Eivor challenged and killed Kjotve in a holmgang, and the clan stormed the fortress when Kjotve's son Gorm Kjotvesson refused to surrender and accept defeat. As the Raven Clan took over the stronghold, Gorm fled from the fortress before Eivor could capture him.[1]
