The Kingdom of England was a sovereign state on the island of Great Britain from 927 when it emerged from various Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, when it united with Scotland to form the Kingdom of Great Britain.

From 1337, the English was ruled by the House of Plantagenet, who waged war against the French House of Valois over the right to rule the Kingdom of France.[1]
