Karystos was a Greek polis located at the southernmost region of Euboea, at the foot of Mount Ochi. The city served as an important meeting point of shipping routes linking the Gulf of Euboea and the Aegean archipelago. During the Greco-Persian Wars, the city-state joined the Achaemenid Empire against the Greek alliance.

During the Peloponnesian War, the city and its dock was visited by the Spartan misthios, Kassandra.[1]
