Jörmungandr, also known as the World Serpent is a giant serpent in Norse mythology.

Mythology

He is the son of Loki, and as such is also the brother of the goddess Hel, and the wolf Fenrir.

Legacy

The stories of Jörmungandr became intertwined in Norse culture, as a result Vikings would be tattooed with the serpent for strength in battle.
