John of Montecorvino (1247–1328) was an Italian Franciscan missionary who founded the earliest Catholic missions in India and China as archbishop of Dadu.

In 1289, Pope Nicholas IV appointed Montecorvino as a papal missionary to China. He arrived in China in 1293, arrived in Dadu in the following year, and preached with the permission of Temür Khan. Later, in 1307, Montecorvino was appointed bishop of Dadu.[1]
