Ine (c. 670 – c. 727) was King of Wessex from 689 until his abdicated in 726, whereupon he traveled to Rome.

Biography

Ine is known for laying down Anglo-Saxon laws, which was a general code of conduct for his citizens, issued in about 694. Within the laws, Ine defined what a thegn was and noted the punishment for said thegns neglecting their military duty.[1]
