Ikaros, also spelled Icarus, was the son of the famous inventor and craftsman Daidalos in Greek mythology.

Biography

According to Greek legend, Ikaros flew too close to the sun on wings his father had made, only to plummet to the sea.

Legacy and Influence

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra had an eagle companion named Ikaros. In Elis, there was a crater with high cliffs around it which was named Ikaros' Nest.
