In Greek mythology, Ikaros, also spelled Icarus, was the son of the famous craftsman Daidalos.

Biography

According to Greek legends, Ikaros flew too high to the sun on artificial wings, which melted and he plummeted to his death. [citation needed]

Legacy and Influence

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra had an eagle companion named Ikaros. In Elis, there was a crater with high cliffs around it which was named Ikaros' Nest.[1]
