Hjalmgunnar was the King of the Goths in Norse mythology.
Mythology
Once, Hjalmgunnar fought with another king and Odin promised that Hjalmgunnar a great victory, though Brunhild[1] brought him down in battle and he was cast down with the shameful dead.[2]
Legacy
In Eivor Varinsdottir's visions of Odin's time at Niflheimr, Hjalmgunnar was the Lord of Døkkerland, the midlands of the realm. Though he once dreamt to be lauded in Asgard, in these dreams, Odin's broken oath angered him and he set about rebuilding himself into an instrument of revenge,[2] using abandoned appendages and discarded flesh,[1] though the connections that made up his reconstructed nervous system were weak to lightning.[2]
