Herod I of Judea (c. 74 or 73 BCE – c. 4 BCE or 1 BCE), also known as Herod the Great, was the Roman client king of Judea from 37 BCE until his death.

History

His rule was considered tyrannical, and he was opposed by the Hidden Ones. In addition, the Roman general Gaius Julius Rufio made plans to visit Herod in the hopes of securing an alliance with Cleopatra and Marcus Antonius. In 38 BCE, Kawab, having just joined the Hidden Ones, made preparations to travel to Judea to help deal with Herod.

Jesus's Birth and Herod's Death

Upon hearing of the birth of a miraculous baby called Jesus, Herod the Great, feeling threatened, had his soldiers execute all newborns in Judea so as to kill of Jesus. He failed at this, because Joseph took Jesus and flied to Egypt. At an unknown point, Herod the Great died and Jesus and Joseph returned and settled down in Nazareth.
