Herakles' Mace

Herakles' Mace was a club fashioned after the club born by the legendary hero Herakles in the Greek mythology. Like its mythical counterpart, this club was made from a single, solid piece of olive wood, its end carved to resemble a roaring lion's head. The grip of the club was enforced with metal bands, and bound with leather.

During the Peloponnesian War, the mace was held in a chest within the Temple of Demeter and Kore in Arkadia. The Spartan misthios Kassandra infiltrated the heavily guarded temple, and claimed the mace for herself.[1]

Behind the scenes

Herakles' Mace, a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, is actually a club despite being named a mace.

In Assassin's Creed: Odyssey's DLC The Fate of Atlantis: Torment of Hades, the model of Herakles' Mace was recycled with an added glow as the Cursed Mace of Herakles.
