Henry II of France
Henry II (French: Henri II; 1519 – 1559) was King of France from 1547 to his death.
Biography
Early life
Henry married Catherine de' Medici in 1533 and succeeded his father, Francis I, as King of France in 1547.[1] Under his reign, the Louvre palace was expanded and improved.[2]
Death
In 1559, he participated in jousting tournament at what is now the Place des Vosges. During the tournament, Henry received a mortal head wound[3] when his skull was unintentionally pierced by Gabriel de Montgomery, his master-at-arms. He later died from his injuries within the Hôtel des Tournelles.[1]
Legacy
Henry's heart was placed in the Church of the Celestines. The heart was later moved to the Louvre.[4]
In November 2014, many facts about Henry's life and deeds were included by Shaun Hastings in various database entries for the perusal of a certain Helix Initiate whilst they relived the memories of the French Assassin Arno Dorian.[2][3][4]
