Henry II of France
Henry II (French: Henri II; 31 March 1519 – 10 July 1559) was King of France from 1547 to his death.
Henry married Catherine de' Medici in 1533 and succeeded his father, Francis I, as King of France in 1547. Under his reign, the Louvre palace was expanded and improved. In 1559, he participated in jousting tournament at what is now the Place des Vosges. During the tournament, Henry received a mortal head wound and died in a nearby building.
His heart was placed in the Église les Célestins church. The heart was later moved to the Louvre.
