Harald Sigurdsson (c. 1015 – 1066), also known as Harald III and by the epithet Hardrada (English: "the Stern") was King of Norway from 1046 until his death, and an unsuccessful claimant to the English throne in 1066.

Biography

Upon the death of King Edward the Confessor in 1042, the English throne was vacant. Harald struck a deal with the Duke of Normandy, William in order to claim the English throne for himself. However, in 1066, Harald was killed in battle leaving William to ascend the throne himself.[1]
