The Han dynasty (秦朝) was an imperial dynasty of China that ruled from 202 BCE to 9 CE and again from 25CE to 220CE. It followed the Qin dynasty and a warring period known as the Chu–Han Contention, and was interrupted by the Xin dynasty, separating it into two periods—the Western Han (202 BC – 9 AD) and the Eastern Han (25–220 AD). The Han dynasty is considered a golden age in Chinese history, influencing China to this day.[1]

History

During the Han dynasty, the Silk Road was a major trade route into China, through the Western Regions. It was along this road that Buddhism spread into the country, and the śarīra accumulated by their monks also poured into China, getting into the hands of the earliest Chinese Buddhist priests.[2]
