The Glorious Revolution (1688 – 1689) was the collection of events leading to the deposition of King James II of England and replacement by his nephew and son-in-law William of Orange, then ruler of the Dutch Republic. It's considered part of the Nine Years' War.[1]

History

James II's ascension to the throne in 1685 and following policies of religious tolerance as well as his proximity to France and overt Catholicism alienated a large portion of England's population. English Parliamentarians persuaded William of Orange to cross the English Channel from the Netherlands, causing King James' rule to collapse.[2]

These events would lead to the ban of the re-establishment of Catholicism in England, the creation of the Declaration of Right and further restrictions to the monarch's power.[2]
