Gaspard Monge
Gaspard Monge (1746 - 1818) was a French mathematician and scientist in 18th century France.[1]
Biography
During the French Revolution, Monge entered into a military science competition, which gave its challenge by trying to find an efficient manner to increase the stability of explosive powders. After some time, he later deduced a stable formula within one of his books. However, a competitor, Colonel Frolois, knew of Monge's quick expertise. Thus, he intended to sabotage his findings with a explosion at Monge's lab using the solar cannon in the Palais-Royal. However, the attempt went awry after it killed local bystander Alexandre Loissac instead. After an investigation by French Assassin Arno Dorian, the colonel was rightfully accused and taken to jail.[2]
