The 13 Vendémiaire uprising was a rebellion of royalists in Paris on 5 October 1795. Napoleon Bonaparte, a young artillery officer of the French Army, defeated 25,000 Royalists with only 5,000 troops, but used 40 cannon to defeat the rebel forces. In the process, he left one royalist without one eye, and that royalist would later return to attempt to assassinate him with "The Infernal Machine".
