"I'd be lying if I said I was heartbroken. Jean-Paul drove my lover away! So overprotective, and with all the enemies he's made in Paris I was living in constant terror!"
―Albertine on her brother, 1793.[src]
Arno Dorian questioning Albertine Marat

Charlotte Albertine Marat (1760 – 1841) was the sister of leading Jacobin politician Jean-Paul Marat.

Overprotective of his sister, Marat disapproved of Albertine's lover and drove him away. Due to Marat's revolutionary ideals, Albertine and the family were also put in constant fear of reprisal from his enemies. After Marat was assassinated, Albertine was considered one of the suspects and taken to the St. Germain Prison by the Gendarme. When Arno Dorian questioned Albertine, she claimed not to have been emotionally affected by his death, having lost her lover and lived in fear because of him.[1]
