The Athenian Captain was an Athenian captain stationed at Endymion Camp in the Psophis Foothills of Elis, Greece.
During the 428 BCE Olympic Games the Captain forced the con man Alopex and the street kids he worked with, including Maia, to steal for him, threatening with violence and other abuse, even stealing the necklace of Maia's mother.[1]
When Alopex and Maia stole the drachmae of the Spartan misthios Kassandra, Kassandra caught up with Maia, who told her all about the Captain. As the girl reminded her of her friend Phoibe, Kassandra promised the girl to help her. Kassandra subsequently tracked the Captain to his camp, and overheard a conversation between Alopex and the Captain, and then slew the Captain, claiming the necklace of Maia's mother and freeing the street children the man kept in cages.[1]
