Derratos (unknown – 48 BCE) was a general of Ptolemy XIII who operated in the Faiyum during the 1st century BCE.

Biography

Derratos was a general in Ptolemy XIII's army who was placed in charge of taxing the Egyptians in the Faiyum region. When the Egyptians were not able to pay their taxes, Derratos would have them executed, including their own children. Theodoros, a rebel leader whose father was executed by Derratos years ago, would pursue the Ptolemaic general across Egypt, eventually to the Saqqara Nome in 48 BCE. That year, the rebel lead a group of men to attack Derratos' camp, which had larger numbers than the rebels. The rebels' attack failed, though it alerted Derratos, causing him to be on the move.[1]

Eventually, he settled down in a camp situated by Lake Moeris. However, the camp under attack by Theodoros and his men, this time with the assistance of the Medjay, Bayek. Derratos men were defeated, resulting in his capture. Theodoros shoved a fig into Derratos' mouth to remind him of the killing of the former's father, later dowsing a jar of oil upon him. As Derratos tried to flee, he was killed by an fire-lit arrow, resulting in him burning to death.[2]
