Cistern of Mocius
Cistern of Mocius

Built on Seventh Hill by the Roman Emperor Anastasius in the sixth century, the Cistern of Mocius was fairly large by Constantinople's standards. It was built using the Roman construction technique: Opus Listatum, which alters layers of bricks and stone. It originally had a small structure in the middle and was used as a small vegetable garden until the late 20th century. To this day it has been mostly restored and serves as an educational site.
