Captain Aetes was a Greek soldier stationed in Dionysias Wharf, Faiyum, Egypt.

Aetes had a paternalistic view of his duty, claiming it was for the security of both Greece and Egypt, saying that the Egyptians, if left to themselves, "would never know true civilization".
