The Aekuni Shrine Town, or simply Iga,[1]. is a former town and later city in present-day Mie Prefecture.[2] The town formerly served as the heart of Iga Province and was known for the Aekuni Shrine.[1]

History

At the time of the 16th century, the Iga ikki would use the town as the place where they would organise an assembly to renew their vows to their league.[3] The town also saw battle during the Second Tenshō Iga War when it was attacked by Oda Nobunaga's army on 30 September 1581[4]
