Desmond Miles, a cipher.

The term "cipher" is a form of address used by certain members of the First Civilization to identify those individuals who would become integral parts of their plans. The term was used predominantly by Juno, to address the Helix research analyst[1] and the Helix initiate;[2] it was also used by Jupiter to address Desmond Miles, at one stage.[3]

The First Civilization typically contacted the ciphers through the genetic memories of those individuals the ciphers' were viewing, such as Ezio Auditore da Firenze,[3] and Lydia Frye.[2]

Trivia

  • The term cipher has a number of self-conflicting meanings; it is sometimes used to describe something as having no value, influence, or importance. Other times, it refer to a secret method of writing, as by transposition or substitution of letters.
