Chikubushima (竹生島) is an island in the north of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. Since ancient times, the island has been known for its scenery and its Buddhist and Shinto temples and shrines.[1]
History
In 1582, the Shinbakufu member The Wheel had organized a meeting on the island after changing the location from Shiotsu on the main land to Chikubushima. The Iga kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe and samurai Yasuke, in pursue of The Wheel, traveled to the island in order to uncover its identity. At the Hogonji Temple, the two confronted The Wheel, who revealed herself as Oda Nobunaga's sister Oichi, who then told the truth and reason for joining the Shinbakufu.[2]
Naoe and Yasuke would return to the island at one point, retrieving lost pages at Hogonji and visiting the nearby Kannonji Temple and Tsukubusuma Shrine.[3] The two also pursued the corrupt daikan Izumi Bunzo, known by the alias as The Hoarder[4]
