Richard Thompson was the Deputy Governor of Harbour Island in the Bahamas and one of the West Indies' wealthiest merchants due to his trading in all manner of goods with New England. He was also the father-in-law of the pirate John Cockram.

In March 1718, Charles Vane had gathered an army and intended to loot the island before the Royal Navy would. Vane marooned Thompson on a deserted islet, since the latter refused to tell where his gold was located.

Alonzo Batilla, while searching for La Buse, came to rescue Thompson in exchange for information on the whereabouts of his friend.

Behind the scenes

Richard Thompson is a historical figure introduced in the 2013 mobile spin-off Assassin's Creed: Pirates, though it refers to him only by his surname.
