The Belvedere Palace, later known as the Cortile del Belvedere, is a building complex in Vaticano District, Rome.[1] On 2 January 1500, the Italian Templar Cesare Borgia captured the Italian Assassins' ally Countess Caterina Sforza of Forlì,[2] whom he planned torture for information. After they arrived in Rome on 30 June 1501,[3] Cesare had Sforza detained in the Belvedere Palace, though her stay was brief, as she was quickly transferred to the Castel Sant'Angelo after an escape attempt.[4]
