Batu Khan (c. 1207 – 1255) was the founder of the Golden Horde, the northwestern sub-khanate of the Mongol Empire. He was the son of Jochi Khan, the first son of Genghis Khan.

Batu Khan was murdered in 1255 on orders of his vassal, Russian leader Alexander Nevsky, out of revenge for the murder his father, Yaroslav II of Vladimir.
