For now, we could stick with she 'mysteriously disappeared'. Women were property back then, so they could be disposed of as such. She may have been cast out, forced away from wealthy New Orleans society and forced to live somewhere else, or he had someone get rid of her. Either way, Aveline doesn't know what happened to her mom, so no doubt she'll want to find her or know what happened. That woman in the picture looks African; Connor's tribesman in the traditional Native garb was lighter than that, he's lighter than that, and Aveline is lighter than that. Not saying Natives can't be dark (my great grandpa was a dark native). But, with the trend of Natives being caramel-skinned in-game, I'm assuming they'll stick with that.
