Assassin's Creed II arguably the best game in the series wasn't that didn't feature any major wars or battles. I know the Italian Wars was happening during that time but we never directly took part in it. The game was mainly focused on the Renaissance and the great minds of its time such as Niccolo Machiavelli and Leonardo D Vinci. That's similar to Syndicate as it will be another type of Renaissance in the guise of the Industrial Revolution with many great minds of that time such as Charles Dickens, Charles Darwin and Karl Marx.

In fact games when their is major conflict in the time period with in the series are usually the worst ones. Such as AC3 and Unity.
