Apologies for the wait, anon :P

But honestly, there's not much I can say regarding Aveline's popularity. Even amongst the more hardcore of fans, she's not really much of a hit - although her character is composed of many interesting characteristics imo, her character arc in the game is rather unimpressive. It does not capitalize on Aveline's most interesting traits (honestly, I wish the 'secretly being an Assassin' had at one point come to a head with her father finding out - I wonder what his reaction would've been).

So she's frequently forgotten about, and if she is remembered, it tends to be because she ticks the 'female poc protagonist' box (and was the AC franchise's first female protagonist)  or because people ship her with Connor. I can't claim she is popular, because she isn't :P It's a bit of a shame, but hey, I can't help it if she didn't appeal to the masses (originally being released on PS Vita with little advertising probably had something to do with her limited recognition as well).

For what it's worth though, I think Ubisoft's first stab at a female protagonist wasn't so bad; they at least managed to avoid the sexualisation tropes and centering Aveline's motivations around a male character.
