Both Assassins and Templars want the same goal but differ in methods. Assassins believe peace would achieved through free will through challenge and Templars believe peace would achieved through control the easiest path.

Templars have started wars through centuries to achieve their aims and Assassins have been known to torture people to achieve their goals as well evident by Nikolai Orelov torturing someone to get information. They morally grey.

But I am an Assassin fan and this is called Assassins Creed and no one wants to be controlled. ;)
