I just don't care much for the character that much when there are so many more interesting characters in the past sequences that serve as contrast. I just don't find him interesting. Like I mentioned above, at least Shaun is sarcastic, Rebecca is the techie, and Lucy was the leader, but Desmond never really felt like he had a role other than living Plot Mcguffin. Maybe the writers tried to make him bland on purpose so that the player could project themselves onto him, but it didn't really work for me.
