I think the only reason that people wanted a new character, was because it would be Ezio's third game. It would seem odd that Ezio as a character would have been in 3 main games, while Altair only got 1 main game to himself.

This is why I hope that the Altair missions for the game are long, because even though Ezio is nice, I would like more of Altair, so we can see more of Altair and building up his character as he ages.
